3DO Goes Bankrupt

Poor poor 3DO. What a good video game console that COULD have been. The $700+ price tag might have hurt them a little bit but even now the 3DO is a quality product and they came out with some great games for it. I still occasionally play my brother’s 3DO. The games they made for Playstation 2 and others since they stopped making the console have been weak, but the originals were classics. Titles like “Out of this World”, “Need for Speed” (the best out of this series was for 3DO, I can still play that game over and over again), and “Battle Chess”.

Bruce is Almighty

It appears as though Bruce Is Almighty! In this picture (shown right), Jim Carrey predicted that they’d do a $70Million opening weekend. Well, how’s $89Million sound?

I caught the 7:25pm showing on Sunday. And I thought it was pretty good. Not the best in Jim’s filmography, but certainly a long overdue peice. Chris saw it twice (he took his mommy, aww!). It’s been a little while since a good comedy rolled through. Our suggestion is: See it.

EZ-D Self-Destructing DVDS

“Self-Destructing DVDs” are making a comeback. To be honest, I never even heard of these to begin with. It seems like a pretty cool concept but I doubt it will last, but I could and probably will be wrong. It is nice because people do not have to worry about late-fees at their local video store or have the hassle of returning their rentals before a certain time. After 48 hrs. the DVD will just not work anymore. I guess the first time it failed was partially because these special DVDs only worked on special DVD players which just costed people more money. What else is nice is that these DVDs will be available at normal electronic’s stores, not just your Blockbuster or Hollywood Video. Your time starts when you take the movie out of the package and you can watch that movie as many times as you want within that 48 hrs. Again this could be cool but it could pass the way of the DoDo (I’m not sure how you spell it). Some big name movie studies are jumping onto the bandwagon including Disney. I guess will just have to wait and see how they work. I am anxious to test one out tho.

Deftones First Listen

For the many many Deftones fans out there the day you have all been waiting for has arrived. May 20th, brings the release of the much anticipated self-titled Deftones album. I have only listened to it real quick but from the quick listen I really enjoyed the album. I think I will like it more and more as is the norm with most albums. For those who have never listened to the Deftones, give them a chance. Even lead singer, Chino, admits that they are probably one of the hardest bands to get to like but once you do you are in for a very unique and rewarding musical experience.

This album is definitely harder than White Pony, without as many “Digital Bath” type songs. I’m not sure whether that is a good thing or not yet. When I listen to the album more I will give you a full review. Definite standouts tho.. Pins and Needles, Minerva (the first single), and Deathblow.

My Music of the Moment

I am a HUGE music fan. I’m not particularly picky either. I like it all from some hard rock to pop and everything in between. Lately I’ve been leaning towards some more rock selections. Nowadays its hard to find music to listen to and review that doesn’t have a lot of foul language in it, but I’ve tried my best.

My favorite album so far this year by far is the The Used’s self-titled album. This album is just incredible. The first couple times I listened to this album I didn’t like it at all. But after listening to it a couple more times I was totally amazed by it. I can listen to this album over and over again and don’t have to skip any songs. I would say none of the songs are bad songs. They are all good but some are just unbelievable namely, “Bullimic”, “Poetic Tragedy”, “Buried Myself Alive”, “On My Own”, and last but not least, “Pieces Mended”. Just a word of caution, lead singer Bert McCracken screams… ALOT. It took me a while to get used to but now I couldn’t imagine the album with it. The lyrics are absolutely incredible, along with the instruments that are extremely powerful. Every song on the CD sounds completely different then the last. They all have extreme emotion and you can really feel the pain in Berty Boy’s voice (who cares if he is dating Kelly Osbourne) |disappointed|. This album is definitely top 10 on my all time list.. 15 stars out of 5.

Next up in the same “emo/punk” genre is Finch’s album “What It Is To Burn”. I never really gave these guys a chance but after listening to them they are really good. The sound of the instruments definitely make this album for me. The guys voice is not very unique and sometimes sounds downright New Found Glory-ish. Please never let me write New Found Glory in a post again. They are definitely a lot more punk-pop sounding then the Used but good nonetheless, at least they don’t sound TOO much like the aptly named “All-American Rejects” (I shutter at the thought). Some of the songs sound too similar to one another for my taste resulting in some skipping through songs. Definite standouts on this album are “New Beginnnings” - which has an awesome bass sound.. I wish more sounded like this one, “Without You Here”, “Project Mayhem”, and the hidden… UMMM… title track/new single (doesn’t make sense to me either)”What It Is To Burn”, which is probably the best song on the entire album…. 4 out of 5.

Finally comes a very unique band, CKY’s Infilitrate-Destroy-Rebuild. Many of you probably heard of these guys. I have heard of them before but never actually sat down and listened to them. Well to be honest when I first listened to these guys I felt kind of ashamed to be. They were so weird that I could barely stomach it. But after listening and turning off repeatedly I could not get some of the songs out of my head. As with many CD’s you cannot judge them just by the first couple listens. After listening to again I really really became addicted to these guys. They are a kinda mix between 70’s hippee rock, Pink Floyd, and metal - with suprisingly no screaming (is that a good thing?). They are the most unique band I think I have ever heard, which is very refreshing in today’s age of everything sounding the same. Many of you probably have heard them on the shopping cart song for “Jackass” or at least the guitar riff. They have the most ridiculous, fantasy type lyrics but they are oddly intriquing. The sound is different and definitely worth a listen. Props to Bryan for getting me into those guys. Songs to check out - “Attached at the Hip” - a song about literally being attached at the hip through surgery (I said they were weird), “Flesh Into Gear”, and “Close Yet Far”. 4 out of 5

Well those are my latest music choices. If your in the mood for some good plain ol’ rock check out the 12 Stones CD … GOOD STUFF. When I’m in the mood to listen to some other stuff I’ll be sure to tell you about it.

X2: X-Men United

This movie surpassed my expectations. You can see at Yahoo! Movies that X-Men is doing very well with public and critic reviews. I feel no different.

The opening sequence for X-Men 2 was worth the $7.50 (oh wait, I had a free ticket), well, it would have been worth the $7.50 if I paid it.

I am not about to write a review on plot, or effects, or story. That just wouldn’t be right for this movie. So, I will leave you all to figure out if you like the movie or not, but I recommend it highly.
