The Iggles Lose
Sorry for the delay on this post.. I had to take a couple of days to let the loss sink in so I could analyze my thoughts without talking too much BS.
The Eagles have done it again. I do not dare to say the dreaded C-word because I don’t think that they did. Well at least not the majority of the team. The defense really came to play on Sunday allowing only 14 points and very few rushing yards in comparison to their previous games. Brian Dawkins and Bobby Taylor both missed one play that resulted in a touchdown but that would have been negated if the offense at least scored one touchdown. I also refuse to blame this game on Donovan McNabb. He was playing hurt first off. Secondly the majority of his passes were on target but the receivers did not run their proper routes or they just bounced off the receiver’s chests. Actually on all 3 of McNabb’s interceptions and on Koy’s interception it was all because of badly run routes. I do place a lot of the blame on the receivers. I am a big fan of Todd Pinkston and I believe that in the final games of the season, minus the NFC Championship game, he stepped up and played a HUGE part in the Eagles success. But he played horribly on Sunday and he even admitted that this was probably the worst game he had ever played. Trash on the other hand I am not a HUGE fan of. I will be supportive of him because he is an Iggle, but I do not like him as a starting receiver. He is an above average kick returner so that is where he should be used, on special teams. I strongly hope and believe that Freddie Mitchell will take his starting spot next year because he came up huge all year and was the only receiver that showed up to play on Sunday. I also cannot take anything away from Duce’s performance (most likely last as an Eagle). He played with tons of heart and just would not be tackled. Donovan too played with much heart and I give the Eagles a lot of credit for overachieving this year when they could have folded after an 0-2 start and tons of injuries.
I am not half as upset as I was at the end of last year. Last year I fully believed that the Eagles had the Buc’s game in the books. I did not look past the Carolina Panthers that easily. In this crazy NFL with parity it is possible for any team to beat any other team when they come to play on Sunday. Thats just the reality of it. Only one team wins it all. Eagles were only 1 of 4 teams that made it to the Championship round and for that I am proud that they are my favorite team. They always have been and they always will be. But I hope that they will continue to FLY EAGLES FLY on the Road to Victory.
