Participation via Comments

First I posted my panorama and then I asked for everyone to help me get better at them. This yielded almost no response. The way I figure it, this could only mean 3 things.

  • The reader’s of this post do not know the answers to the questions I asked.
  • Noone read it.
  • Noone cares.

After reviewing my stats, I saw that at least a few people had visited the site since I posted. Also, I know that there are people that are subscribed to this Blog’s RSS feed.

Lately, I’ve been handed a decision to make. One that could further hinder, or even discourage those who want participate via commenting. I may have to turn comment moderation on in WordPress. This would mean that I would have to approve every comment. For obvious reasons this is something that I do not want to do. However, our site has been getting about 4 or 5 daily comment spams on older posts. I could implement a feature that some blogfriends of mine have, which is to disable commenting after 2 weeks or so. Or, the option that Dunstan (I’m not linking to his blog, if you don’t know it by now your stupid), has implemented - which is to have the commentor preview his comment - and then have the ability to post it.

All of the above, and a few others that I have found would work nicely. However I really would like to forgo all of these options and leave it as is. I may have to rework the WordPress commenting code just slightly - to keep some of these bots from having the ability to spam.

Any suggestions on this, would be much appreciated - but again I don’t expect anyone to comment. :)
