Van Helsing

Going into this movie, I was severely skeptical, which is something I frown upon. Even though I like to get a glimpse of what everyone else is saying about a movie, I try my best not to let it affect my expectations of a film. Most often, unfortunately, I lose that battle - and end up thinking what the majority is thinking even before I see it.
That being said, I enjoyed Van Helsing, even though many reviewers did not. Eric, a friend who attended the same showing I did, said that he thought there was too much going on. This I can agree with, to a certain extent. There were many main characters in this film, at least 4 at a time, that the story had to follow. I believe the ending could have been wrapped up a little bit better. Without spoiling it for others, I will say this: At the end, Van Helsing is to kill Dracula. I think that the other characters peril should have been wrapped up prior to the last showdown, allowing for full attention of the audience to be focused on the final battle sequence. Besides that, I can’t complain about Van Helsing.
As far as Visual Effects go, Van Helsing was top notch. I was only distracted a few times, such as when a few of the “real actors” were turned into CGI when falling off of roofs, etc. But it seems that happens alot these days, and I am sure that someday it will be almost removed all together.
Van Helsing will be a nice addition to my DVD collection in the coming months.
