Jason Mraz - Absolutely Zero
This week’s song comes as a blast from the past for me. I listened to this CD religiously after I had finally given it a chance a couple months back and this song was on the top of my list. So when I’d had my fill of my newer collection I went back in collection and started listening to my Howie Day, Jason Mraz and Jack Johnson cd’s. I forgot how much I loved and missed “Absolutely Zero”, which is, without a doubt, my favorite song on Jason’s ‘Waiting for My Rocket to Come” album.
Song: Absolutely Zero

Why This Song?
This song starts off very slowly building to a non-stop 2 minute outburst of emotion. The last two minutes of the song do not let up in intensity and it will have you singing along like David Spade and Chris Farley in Tommy Boy. Even if this is not your style of song, this song is still gripping. The lyrics, about who should receive the blame for a night gone awry, are believable and many people can relate to such regrets. The orchestral composition of the song is moving and fits well with the lyrics. The lyrics are definitely the most serious and straight-forward on the entire album, foregoing Jason’s normal freestyle type vibe. With a 5 minute plus running time this song never seems long but rather it leaves you wanting more, which is usually why I put it on repeat.
If you like heartfelt, emotional songs without screaming (no offense to screamo fans, hey I am one .. long live The Used) this is your song.
