I was really struggling this week trying to decide my SOTW. I have been listening to a lot of old favorites and some new artists that deserve the recognition. I have decided to go with the album that I have probably been listening to the most and not the particular song. Since this is SOTW and not Album of the Week I had to choose one from that album.

**Before I even get to the song I feel obliged to tell everyone about this album. Gavin DeGraw’s “Chariot” is one of the best albums of ‘04, without a doubt. For anyone who likes singer/songwriters this album is a must for your collection. Trust me on this one. Don’t be fooled because his song is featured on a WB show, this guy is the real deal with a boatload of talent. I honestly like EVERY song on this CD. There are some I like more than others but pretty much I like each one the same. The reason I choose this song is because it is probably the saddest on the CD and since the last weekend of the summer has come and gone I feel like depressing everyone more. Seriously, get this album.

**This was written for fans of singer/songwriters/piano/light rock genres. Please do not tell me you wasted your money on a CD that I recommened because the only music you like is hardcore or screamo. If you are a hardcore/screamo with an open mind you might want to give it a try, otherwise stick to the hard stuff.**

Song: Just Friends
Artist: Gavin DeGraw
Album: Chariot

Why This Song? This song is just so catchy. Its a song that is hard NOT TO sing along to and that goes for pretty much every song on this album. This song is perfect for anyone that is looking to jump off a cliff because they caught their girlfriend cheating on them with someone she said was “just a friend”. You’ve heard it many times before but this delves into that heartbreaking incident and goes beyond it by giving the cheating girl another chance. (“I saw you there last night / Standing in the dark / You were acting so in love / With your hand upon his heart / But you were just friends / At least that’s what you said /Now I know better from his fingers in your hair / I forgive you for what you’ve done / If you say that I’m the one”) Do I agree with the sentiment? No, not really, but that doesn’t diminish the quality of this song because you still have to feel for the guy because he likes her so much. He also gets a little ballsy at the end of the song and tells her how it will be but leaves the decision up to her. (‘It’s not my style to lay it in on the line / But you don’t leave me with a choice this time / Why weren’t you true? /You know I trusted you’) Ahhh, hopeless romantics are funny.
