Chevelle - Get Some
This week was another tough call for SOTW. The Used album* came out today and being such a huge Used fan, especially of their self-titled album, I wanted to pick one of their songs. SOTW has to be the song that I’m going to listen to the most this week and I think this song will be the clear cut winner. I have had The Used album and the Chevelle album for the last week and I listened to Sound Effects and Overdramatics more last week than this week. This week it has been all “Get Some” by Chevelle and their entire new album, “This Type Of Thinking Could Do Us In”. The most interesting thing about this selection is that I hated Chevelle’s last album, “Wonder What’s Next”, but this album is killer. I’d recommend it to all rock fans. I can not get over how much this album sounds like early Tool albums without the cursing.
*More to come on The Used album*
Song: Get Some
Artist: Chevelle
Album: This Type Of Thinking Could Do Us In
Why This Song? What can I possibly say about this song? It’s plain and simple - this song is just flat-out awesome. It’s heavy and it features some great growls and subtle screams. The bass riff is killer. It is the type that pounds your chest when you listen loud enough. It is what a solid rock song should be. I would personally like to hear more screaming in a song like this, but that is just me. That doesn’t take away from the song whatsoever. This is the type of song that was made for driving in your car. The aggression, hard riffs, and lyrics all make you want to drive faster and possibly crash into something. Ok, maybe this is the perfect song when your not driving. Maybe its the perfect song for when you are in a padded room by yourself or in the mosh pit, you choose for yourself. Either way, this song rocks. Did I mention this song rocks? Also, the change up about half way through the song is enough to make an easy-listening fan raise their fist and head bang.
Go check it out and the rest of the album. These guys converted me from a hater to a lover in one phenomenal album. I have to go back and give “Wonder What’s Next” another shot. From what I heard from this album I wonder what was wrong with me.
