Some of you have heard of Kirk McElhearn before, especially those of you who read MacWorld Magazine as religiously as I do. In addition to writing for a few magazines, he’s written numerous books on several topics revolving around the Macintosh platform. Needless to say, his personal weblog is written well and contains useful input based on a knowledgeable perspective.

Reigning from his lofty position in the French Alps, Kirk writes about various topics not all having to do with the Macintosh. I mean, he’s written 6 miscellaneous posts to date - which range from pictures of his view to Gmail account giveaways. You’ve got to give him credit for that!

What makes this blog readable?

The proof is in the pudding, as they say, and that goes for Kirk’s weblog as well. His articles are usually timely, and express his thoughts in an easy-to-read manner. That’s not to say that some of his writing isn’t slightly biased, but aren’t all tech-writers in some way biased towards one platform or the other? I know I am.

Some of the most noteworthy articles he’s written recently include those about various OS X applications, and not necessarily about the platform itself. He’s recently expressed that he thought iTunes should have nested “folders” or playlists, which I agree with. However, he also wrote that we don’t need a color-screen iPod - which I disagree with. Whether you agree with him or not, his articles create a stir in the industry. I haven’t had the pleasure of reading any of his books yet, but I plan on doing so in short order. I’m sure his books are above-par when comparing them to his weblog or magazine articles.

I do have a suggestion for this weblog however. I’ve signed up to Mr. McElhearn’s Web site so I can comment on his articles. However, logging back into his site can become a painful process. Go to his home page, and try to login. The user login is so far down on the left-hand side it’s almost hidden. Move that to the top of each page, and all should be well Kirk.
