Bullet Theory
Song: Bullet Theory
Artist: Funeral for a Friend
Album: Casually Dressed & Deep in Conversation
Why This Song? Me and a few friends went to see these fellas from across the pond last Friday along with Like Yesterday, Atreyu, and Taking Back Sunday. Needless to say, they put on a killer show, possibly the best out of the bunch. Taking Back Sunday definitely had the best performance but soundwise I think these guys sounded the best. Part of the reason TBS was a little hard to hear was because everyone in the crowd was screaming the lyrics. Since these guys aren’t as popular, at least in that circle, the clarity was great.
This song is just a great song to listen to when you’ve got some pent up anger and feel like smashing something, which for me is pretty much everyday. The song, especially the ending piece, is pretty heavy and great for driving music or for your afternoon nap. FFAF feature a nice mix of singing and screaming, instead of just all of one or the other.
Some say the song’s lyrics are about the American government (they are British) and the supposed unwanted oppresion and deceit it places upon its citizens. (‘The smoke and mirror / the lies that bind your tongue / Is this oppression what we wanted? / Or what we needed? / As we function on impatience / And our patience is wearing thin /and live a lie that will destroy us all’). That is definitely a valid interpretation but there could be many possible interperatations. I haven’t read anything the band has said about the lyrics, but I don’t even really care. I like taking it the way I want to take it.
Irene: “You mean like you only hear what you want to hear?”
Charlie: “Thanks. I like to keep it short for the summer.”
Great song and a great band. Check them out if you haven’t heard them yet.
