iPod box dock

I saw a post on boing boing about this guy who printed off some cool prints and made himself an iPod dock for next to nothing. Nice way to save $30.00.

So I decided to finally put that iPod Box slip cover to good use, and make my own iPod box dock. It didn’t turn out quite as nice as the guy who made the one on Boing Boing, but it’ll do. Here are a few photos of the process.

iPod box
First you start off with the iPod box slip cover, which almost all iPods come with. At least when I bought my wife’s iPod they did.

Cut into squares
I decided to use the green side as my main side, or left side. And the orangish side as my back.

2 sides cut
Here is what they look like, cut into the desired shape of the dock. Now to tape them together to the spine.

Tape two sides and back
I took the blue side, and used that as my spine. I taped them all together just using normal scotch tape.

Signature
I signed the inside of mine. For reasons passing comprehension.

Looking from the other side
Here is what the left, right and spine look like taped together.

Bottom is pink
I used the pink side as the bottom. Just thought that I might as well use the pink side too. I would suggest girls using the pink side as their left side.

Left side
The completed dock, from the left side.

Back and right
The completed dock, from the right side (back).

Bottom back and right
The back, bottom and right sides.

All done
The dock, holding the iPod.

I thought it was a fun project, and it didn’t take me that long to complete. You can see a few more pictures I took of the process on the Flickr photo set named: iPod box dock.

If you make one of these, please comment on this post and let me see yours.

Blogstravaganza

If you have a Web site, especially a Web log (Blog), and would like to generate any of the following for your site:

  • Traffic
  • Income
  • A lot of traffic, a little income
  • A little traffic, a ton of income
  • As much as you can get of both

Then you must consider joining the 9Rules Network.

What does this mean? Well, details about what the 9Rules network will do for you will be spewing forth on the 9Rules site over the coming days, weeks and months. Suffice to say, that the interest in becoming part of this network is so staggering, that there will only be a 24 hour period in which you can submit your Web site for review.

Don’t panic!! You have 7 days, from the time of this post, to get your Web site together prior to review.

Can’t wait any longer? Read more on Whitespace, a Weblog which is already part of the 9Rules network.

Do it yourself

File this under “Learn from other’s mistakes”. Nate Kushner, good friend of my great friend Christopher Coleman (aka The Almighty Illtron), was asked by some college retard to write a paper on Hinduism in a matter of hours for $75USD. Nate, being a college graduate himself, knows something about hard work and dedication in order to get your degree. So, he wasn’t going to let this chick slide.

Read the full story, it’s well worth the few moments it takes to peruse the whole thing. One thing is for sure, learn from other’s mistakes. Don’t ask people to do whats being expected of you, and turn around and say you did it. Its bad karma.

Snow be gone

The snow, which fell fairly regularly this Winter, is all but gone. This pleases me greatly.

Short Adium wishlist

This is a short and non-descriptive wishlist for any future versions of Adium, an IM client for Mac OS X.

  • File transfer progress dialogue
  • Better Address book integration - like iChat
  • Mail integration - like iChat
  • Chat room stability (sometimes messages do not appear)
  • Away status via menu bar
  • Away status without seperate window
  • Status messages while available
  • Easy way to toggle off groups

There are other things that I found, which I considered bugs, and I did the Adium developers a favor by reporting those errors. Lately open source software has become immensly popular, and none of us should forget to report bugs to the developers.

Update 03/29/05: Chris Coleman wrote that Adium does in fact support the address book. Well, in a way, he was correct. If you look under the advanced options in Adium’s preferences, there is a selection for importing your contacts from the Address book should they have an IM screen name in their address card.

However, what I was looking for, was not merely the ability for Adium to recognize the Address Book as a way to receive contacts, but as a way to store them. If I had a new contact to Adium, I would also like it to add that person to my address book. I would like Adium to use the Address Book as a primary means of storing user data. Is this too much to ask?

The Shins - Know Your Onion

I know I always say this, but I mean this I’m okay.. trust me. Sorry, had to give a quick shout out to MCR. Anyway, I’m seriously going to try to be honest and make the Song of the Week a song posted every week. The weeks just seem to fly by and I don’t even realize that I haven’t posted one.
