Blogs can rob profit

This post isn’t going to be as in-depth as it would be if Business Logs were to do a write up, it’s merely an observation.

Blogs have the ability to rob profit from other, emerging or otherwise, markets. How so? Say you were putting together a video on how to stay in shape at your desk. You drew up charts and graphs showing specific exercises one could do while sitting at their desk at work. Then, you shot your Oscar worthy video demonstrating the exercises, and you were ready to send it to a distributor for mass production. Just then, someone blogs about the exact same idea that they had, and you just lost some of your profit.

Granted this is an extreme case, and your profits wouldn’t be so severely marred that you couldn’t still go forward with the release of your video. But you can definitely see how the immediacy of blogs, and their ability to spread information accross oceans, cultures and languages, would have the ability to rob certain ventures of a good percentage of profit.

This is especially the case with tutorial or reference books. There are countless books on various forms of Web Development. However, there is almost nothing in those books that could not be acquired, for free, online. You’d just have to have the desire to do a ton of Googling and reading to corral enough information about the given topic for it to be worth while. And there is no doubt that having a handy printed-copy reference manual is extremely valuable and usually worth the cover price.

I do not see this being a mass market killer, but I certainly see how the culmination of content published on blogs could be used instead of buying something.
