Short Adium wishlist

This is a short and non-descriptive wishlist for any future versions of Adium, an IM client for Mac OS X.

  • File transfer progress dialogue
  • Better Address book integration - like iChat
  • Mail integration - like iChat
  • Chat room stability (sometimes messages do not appear)
  • Away status via menu bar
  • Away status without seperate window
  • Status messages while available
  • Easy way to toggle off groups

There are other things that I found, which I considered bugs, and I did the Adium developers a favor by reporting those errors. Lately open source software has become immensly popular, and none of us should forget to report bugs to the developers.

Update 03/29/05: Chris Coleman wrote that Adium does in fact support the address book. Well, in a way, he was correct. If you look under the advanced options in Adium’s preferences, there is a selection for importing your contacts from the Address book should they have an IM screen name in their address card.

However, what I was looking for, was not merely the ability for Adium to recognize the Address Book as a way to receive contacts, but as a way to store them. If I had a new contact to Adium, I would also like it to add that person to my address book. I would like Adium to use the Address Book as a primary means of storing user data. Is this too much to ask?
