Big day for Apple

Today was definitely a big day for Apple. With a new version of OS X being released, a handful of other software updates becoming available and the release of their quarterly financial - to say they were busy today would be an understatement.

Mac OS X 10.4.2 came out today, and although I’ve heard a few people having problems with Wi-fi connections and keeping their Dock transparent - I haven’t read many negative stories about this update.

One of the major features of this update is the ability to turn widgets on and off. You can read a great synopsis of this functionality at Bartlme Design.

I can’t say much about speed with the update, since I just upgraded my notebook from 256Mb of RAM to 1.25GB. So even Windows would be faster on my notebook now. Ziiing!

The other software updates consisted of iSync (which I think was officially released yesterday with the OS X update) which has more support for more cellular phones. I read of more than one person that is happy to see this. Also on the list was an update to iPhoto, which made ordering books and prints on 10.4.2 possible. Apple’s own DVD Player also received an update, but I don’t have all the technical notes of that.

The quarterly financial report by Apple today was astounding. One thing is for sure, the Halo effect is in full, errr, effect. I can’t wait to see what the Intel deal brings, regardless of the European “raid”. I love how they called it a raid too. I’m pretty sure they walked into the front door, rather than blowing through it with some type of explosive charge. I’m sure S.W.A.T. was not on the scene. Anyways, just more journalism I suppose.

Either way, as a Mac fan I am very glad to see updates and financial results that exceed estimates. It can only mean it will continue to let Apple do what its been doing for quite some time - innovate for the good of the consumer.
