Mid-term sale at Threadless

Threadless is at it again. Another 10-dollar Tshirt sale. This time, they want you to wear them to your mid-terms.

Update: The first day of this sale Threadless’ Website wouldn’t even load. So I figured I’d wait a day. Now all their shirts (the ones I wanted) are out of stock and their credit card system isn’t working. Ugh. I guess I’ll try again tomorrow.

Update 2: It appears it was my Paypal Debit card that was giving me an issue. Anyone else having problems with their Paypal Debit cards this weekend? Anyways, I picked up I like trees too. Which is almost all that is left right now. 1 day left!!

Premature winter

Q: You know what really grinds my gears?

A: Premature winter. It’s not that I dislike the winter season, it’s really just that I dislike the temperature drop, the glacier floors in the mornings, the freezing winds. I’ve been told that in other areas (mainly the Kootneys in BC), that winter isn’t too bad — it’s not as cold, the snow is lighter, and the wind is nearly nonexistent.

I’m not sure what the root cause is but over the last few years it seems that the autumn season is getting shorter and shorter. Almost to the point where it’s indistinguishable from winter. This is what really grinds my gears.

In the past summer would gradually die down and there would be a great transition to winter. This would usually be for at least a month or two (on ocassion three or more but that’s just plain weird) of fall weather to slowly break me into the colder weather. Now, I’m lucky if there is a week or two.

Maybe it’s just that I’m getting older and have more to complain about. Maybe I just get seasonal depression. Maybe it’s just because the heating in my house sucks.

I think the solution is to move myself to a warmer climate. Ah, at least I can dream about it and that always warms me up a little.

As the hunger subsides my minds-eye already thinks I’m skinny

Perhaps my stomach shrinking has something to do with it, but as my hunger cravings are starting to subside I feel skinny. I still have trouble getting through the average sized door, but in my mind I feel like I’m getting thinner.

Perhaps mental thinness is the mirage in the middle of the desert, and I still have a ways to walk, but the feeling is good nonetheless. The increased energy, which I definitely feel, up until 11:30pm (my bedtime now), is also a treat.

I’m looking forward to health - this being the 25th year since my since my birth and all.

And you would be?

I would be the new guy. I’ve been told that it doesn’t always suck but then again, sometimes it does. It’s probably time for me to explain who I am, where I come from, and just exactly what I do. This could be harder than I thought.

The easiest would probably be to start with who I am. My name is Mike Stickel and I’m an alcoholic. Whoops, wrong place. Sorry kids, us old guys get confused often. I’m the newest edition to the übersquad and I also happen to the oldest and shortest (out of the guys) by a pretty good margin too. The real kicker is that I’m a canuck. That’s right, I live in my cozy, little igloo in the vastness that is Canada.

In actuality, I like to call myself a deseloper [or designeloper, depending on what part of the world you live in], which is a combination designer and developer. I graduated from college with a diploma in visual communications and since then have taught myself the methods and madness of web development. I currently run my own successful web design and development company, called Screenflicker Developments, based out of Calgary, Alberta.

Now I’m sure I’ve wasted enough of your time so I should get back to business. I think I hear the crew sneaking up on me to continue the hazing ceremony so I’d best be off before they catch me. Always remember, have fun and keep your stick on the ice.

Eating my “big meal” in the middle of the day makes me feel like one of Pavlov’s dogs at night

I used to eat the most at night. Dinner, or for some Supper, was always my largest meal. In itself, that is not a horrible thing - but I used to eat dinner late at night, sometimes right before bed. That is the worst thing you can do.

So, I thought that switching my “big meal” to the afternoon would be a better option, and it seems to be. However, at night - I practically want to run out in the yard and graze! Just a few more days, and these cravings should subside. Hopefully.

Being the new guy doesn’t always have to suck

Everyone, please give a warm übergeek welcome to Mike Stickel, the newest member of Theubergeeks.net team.

I’ll let Mike say hello in his own way, but I suggest checking out his company’s Website, his Flickr photos and his posts here on TUG. Welcome aboard Mike.
