Flying to your vacation destination can severely effect the expectations of it
Pre-vacation excitement gets to an all-time high about 1 or 2 days prior to leaving for it. You get everything packed, you make sure that everything is secure at home - you make sure that your reservations are all set - and your brain can hardily function because all your thinking is “Vacation, vacation, vacation, vacation!”.
For our last several vacations we’ve driven to our destination. This expounds the excitement, because often it takes you awhile to get where you’re going.
Over the last several years I’ve lamented the fact that we didn’t fly to our vacation destination. Driving can suck at times, with traffic, dealing with other motorists and the amount of time it takes away from your vacation. However, we flew to Florida for this vacation - and although it was very fast and we didn’t have to deal with any of the normal driving headaches, it seems that the expectation of arriving at your destination is ruined.
Imagine waking up in Pennsylvania in the morning, and by just after lunch time you are in sunny Florida. Not only doesn’t it seem like you’ve traveled the height of the country you live in, but it feels like you’ve simply driven to the next town. I’ve been in Florida for 3 days now and I still do not feel like I’m “in Florida”.
Either way, flying does allow you to spend the major portion of your vacation at the spot that you want to be, rather than spend it just getting there and back.
