Debt
Q: You know what really grinds my gears?
A: Debt. It doesn’t matter what kind of debt it is but there is just something about the idea of owing money to someone that just bugs the h-e-double hockey sticks out of me.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great feeling when you can walk into a bank, ask them for $27,000 for a brand new car and they ask you a couple questions about where you work, then cut you a cheque (or check for you Americans). Walking around with a little piece of paper that is worth more than me at the time made me feel like the king of the world.
The problem is that for the next 5 years you’re tied to that institution. No matter what you’re doing, how much money you have, how nice you are, they want their money and they want it exactly when they ask for it.
Whenever I get any sort of loan, even from a friend, I feel like crap until I can pay back that money — either through favours or in cold hard cash. Of course, there are some out there that definitely don’t feel that way.
Well, today that changes. I just got back from the bank where I paid off the remaining balance for my car loan. God that felt good. That’s an extra $600 a month back in my pocket. Now I get to apply that extra income into my other loans.
Damn, here comes that sick feeling again.
