Weirdness in iChat on Tiger
At the beginning of September Colin, his brother Peter, and I were having a video chat. To set this up a little bit, Colin and Peter were in the same room. They were both on their iBooks and both had iSight cameras attached. They were connected, wirelessly, to Peter’s kicking high speed connection. That’s when the weirdness kicked in.
iChat is a great program, I’ve had many hours of fun and some work done through it. This has never happened before though. For some reason, during this particular video chat, Peter’s video ended up getting delayed about 5 minutes.
Again, I have no idea how this happened because it all started off so smoothly. There were no gliches in the system, no reseting the code, nothing Matrix-y happened — at least nothing that I knew about.
Here’s the really weird part, instead of staying 5 minutes behind for the entire chat, which was my first thought, or just immediately catching up, which I was expecting, iChat pretty much hit the fast forward button. So while Colin pointed his camera at Peter so I could see what was really happening, the video area from Peter’s computer was trying to catch up to real time. It was pretty wild.
This is a shot of Colin showing me what Peter was doing in real time and what Peter’s video was doing.
