King Kong’s Kong-sized news
Recently, while viewing a movie at the local cinema a trailer for King Kong played, and at the end everyone in the theater let out a collective, “That’s going to be great.”
I agree with the consensus. I strongly think that Peter Jackson will do this classic movie justice, and I hope it will rival “Lord of the Ring’s” lasting entertainment value.
Now my excitement gets Kong sized with the New York Times reporting that the new King Kong is going to be 3 hours long and cost over $200 million to make.
Normally, if we hear news of an exceptionally long run-time, we may cringe because who wants to sit through 3 hours of the majority of crap that is out these days. Some of us can barely stomach an hour and a half of what they try to pass off as a movie lately.
However, this is good news to everyone who wants a real high-quality epic, made by a director with an unblemished track record (so far). Many of the “epic” movies, that seem to copy off the Lord of the Rings formula, have been received less than favorably by critics and have only had luke-warm success at the box office (think “Kingdom of Heaven” or “Troy”). I fully believe this movie is going to be an epic and will deserve the title as such.
Another promising sign was that it was decided that the movie would be 3 hours after a screening of an early version of the film was presented to the studio executives. If the shorter version of King Kong didn’t blow these people away, there is no way they would have funded the movie to be longer and bloat the cost of the film.
Anticipation is definitely building for the December 14 release date. If you need your fix before that time, check out the movie’s blog.
