Acquisition now supports BitTorrent

Written by Colin Devroe on Friday, October 28th, 2005 at 8:23 am. Colin is the founder of ChanceCube and the Community Evangelist for Viddler.

Dave Watanabe, one of a small handful of Mac developers I truely admire and creator of Acquisition, NewsFire and Inquisitor, has released the latest beta of Acquisition to support BitTorrent.

What does this mean? You could always find .torrent files via Acquisition but Acquisition never handled the actual downloading of the files which the torrents pointed to (if that makes sense). Now it does. But more importantly this means that one of the top Macintosh developers is now focused on supporting BitTorrent.

If you’re like me, you’ve tried a few BitTorrent ‘clients’ and they’ve all so far been pretty bad. As with all emerging technologies, things get better overtime - and I think this is a huge step.

Update:

Colin, I’m excited to read that Acquisition now supports torrents. However, the developer’s name is David Watanabe - not Wanatabe. - Dale Cruse.

Whoops! Can you believe that I misspelled someone’s name that I admire so much? It happens to the best of us. Thanks for writing in Dale!
