Inconsistent icon previews in Mac OS X
Icon previews, for those of you not “in the know”, is when you can see a thumbnail of the image or video of the file within the Finder or perhaps on your desktop.
I’m finding that OS X is either inconsistent with its icon previews or I’m doing something horribly wrong. I want to see previews of all images and videos. I would rather not simply see the icon for a file, especially on my desktop.
If I save a JPG from iPhoto to my desktop on my iMac, I see a thumbnail of the image as the actual icon for the photo. Awesome. Exactly what I want. If I then drag that file from my iMac to my iBook’s desktop - the preview disappears and it becomes an average document icon. This would make it appear as though this is a preference issue, so I start to play around with my preferences. Under view options, I have the ability to “show icon preview”. Turning it on does nothing, as far as I can tell.
Is there something I am missing? Please send me any suggestions you have to fix this.
