Using Google Video Part One: Uploading your video
Google, or as I like to call them “the company that does everything but tie your shoes for you”, has a service which allows you to host video files with them. Not only will they host the file, but they will add it to their index so that others can find your video content fairly easily.
I thought I’d give it a try by uploading The Works Bomb (instructions to build your own) to Google Video, and so far its been pretty straight forward, although the review process seems to take a bit longer than it should.
Although Google does not always support us Macintosh users, they do in the case of Google Video. The Google Video Uploader is available for Windows, Macintosh, and Linux. Its a fairly straight forward application, with very little frills, which is nice.
Once you have the video uploaded to their service, that is when you can add all types of meta data to the file and even charge money for it. I have not ventured a try at charging for videos, since this is my first time using the service, but I’ll be sure to give that a go sometime in the future.
Status message
After you’re finished adding all of the relevant information for the file, it is then placed in a review queue. How long it takes to get a video reviewed remains to be seen. I uploaded The Works Bomb yesterday afternoon and the status of the file still remains “under review”.
Getting your content onto the Google Video service is very easy, we’ll see how nice it is access, link to and manage after the file is approved.
