MacTheRipper 2.6.6 available for a limited time
Thanks to Chris Coleman for making me aware of this. MacTheRipper, the freeware DVD ripper for Mac OS X, is only available for a limited time on Version Tracker.

I haven’t followed this story, nor researched it much, but I wanted to be sure that I let all of you know as soon as I was told.

Get your new version now, people. In fact, if there are any similar apps out there, like Handbrake, I’d suggest downloading them whenever a new version is out there so you can be up to date in case they do get shut down.
Like many of you, I use MacTheRipper and Handbrake fairly regularly for completely legal uses (Those Simpsons DVDs that I own weren’t on the iPod when I bougt it).
Keep your fingers crossed and stay up to date, because these companies are going to strongarm the little guys right out of existence.

I sometimes wonder how crooks like the folks at Macrovision sleep at night.
(I know, I know, “on piles of money” is the obvious answer.)
