Elvira’s new reality TV show

Maybe you enjoy reality TV. Maybe you live for the next American Idol, The Bachelor, or Survivor and can’t understand why everyone else doesn’t think the same way. Maybe you’re all crazy!

What the heck is so special about all these reality shows? When was the last time contestants on The Bachelor actually made it past 6 months after the last episode? Does anyone know where Clay Aiken or Ruben Studdard are right now? Does anyone even know who won the last American Idol?

This craze with reality TV just boggles the mind. I’ve tried to watch several reality shows but each time I do, as soon as the second commercial break comes on I’ve found a different show to watch. It’s probably just a personal preference but most of the time these shows are either a marketing gimmick for the producers and advertisers — or Simon Cowell — or they are a popularity contest. Woo hoo, I thought that all ended after high school. Guess not.

Well reality TV junkies, there will be a new addition to your reality TV schedule soon. Elvira — yes, that Elvira — is shopping around an unscripted TV series to the networks. As it stands now, FremantleMedia North America — the same company that produces American Idol — is producing the show. Elvira herself, Cassandra Peterson, and partner Eric Gardner will be executive producers.

As per formula, the show will consist of a series of elimination challenges followed by judgments by a panel of judges and Elvira herself. The slight twist is that these challenges will parody the current reality show challenges with a “macabre twist” according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Someone needs to stop this train wreck of reality TV. I even heard that Robert De Niro is shopping around a reality show of his own. I don’t know many details about that one but rest assured, I’ll most likely only watch the first episode — and only for the reason that I’m a huge De Niro fan. If Robert’s not in the show consider the channel changed.

Regardless, every single person you just mentioned has more money than you.

Gee, let me think about that for a second… yup, they sure do. Doesn’t mean I can’t talk badly about their product though ;)
