Tool - Vicarious
I just got finished listening to the new Tool single, “Vicarious”, around 100 times. Let me just say that this song is a kick in the pants to any other rock/metal band around today.
Tool once again proves that they are the band to end all bands. This seven-minute pounding and unrelenting barrage of chunky guitars and pounding drums is just the thing us Tool junkies have been waiting for for so long.
I love A Perfect Circle and all, but this is Maynard’s home, and he shows us why he is the best in the business with Vicarious. His vocals are low-key, but the lyrics are phenomenal and dark.
Instantly you will recall Lateralus when hearing the opening of the song, but the real prize winner is saved for the end. The end of this song will send chills down the spine of any Tool fan.
Give this song a listen and let’s us count down the days til May 2. In the meantime pre-order the album.
Even if you have heard the album already, please make sure you buy the album either through this site or anywhere else. Tool is a band that puts a lot of work into their music and have given all us Tool fans so much quality work over the years. Please support this band, they deserve that.

It’s a great song, and hopefully a great album, I’ve had it pre ordered for about 3 weeks now. Cant wait to hear the rest!

I preordered too, but also have it downloaded and have heard the entire album all sunday.
(I suppose it is the full album, and all the tracks are gonna be on the album)
removing tools trademark “interludes”, the real songs are amazing I think, especially I like : the pot, jambi, vicarious, and right in two.
Jambi goes real heavy at about the 3 min. mark with awesome guitar, followed up with talk box guitar.
The pot is perhaps my fav. track. really… this album will keep getting better.
forget tools old albums and try to listen to this on its own terms.
oh, and the title song is a masterpiece!
Remember to buy the album if you download it

i only have a few things to say… so it won’t take that long to read my comment! haha ;p
tool has always been my favorite band… and they still are… this song is fantastic… but… it wasn’t exactly what i was anticipating… because it’s so much more…
there… that wasn’t too bad, was it?

Tay, that was fine.
Throw out your expectations for this album. You never know what you are gonna get from Tool.

I enjoyed it too. I wasn’t immediately in love with it, but it definitely grew on me like all their other albums.

Yeah this album will definitely shock a lot of Tool fans. Most of the people ive spoken too either loved it or hated it upon first inspection… like all other tool albums, you cannot listen to it once, its a long process. I myself loved certain songs right away and others have continued to grow. Its their best album in some ways.. and id like to note, that vocally, although he remains more “modest” less theatrics and high notes, his voice is in top condition and at times even recalls the snarl of his undertow days.. dare i say better? I do. certainly their most diverse and challenging record.. and not instantly catchy. Besides “the pot” which is their most radio friendly song they have ever done.. thats not a bad thing, its just super addictive and might appeal to many listeners. The best thing ive noticed thus far about the album is its otherworldly feel, in particular the segues which are great and tracks 3,4 “wings for marie” and part 2 “10,000 days” this musical duet is an epic, ancient, ceremonial conjuration that will resonate deeply with many listeners. It’s the kind of track, that when heard with a patient ear, might warp your soul.. anyhow.. its definitely an accomplishment, although im still getting used to some of tracks..

Adam, thanks for the feedback. I definitely agree with you on almost all of what you said. Some songs you are instantly drawn to and some songs take some time. I expected no different though. Lateralus is still growing on me after years.
Still brilliant. Still Tool. Still the best of the best.

I have been looking forward to this for a loooong time, and since Thursday I have heard the entire CD about 10 times so far, and I am absolutely speechless.
I am so happy!
I have come to appreciate the dedication and passion that these individuals put into their work. Tool reminds me of the older bands that experimented and wrote thought provoking emotional complex musical masterpieces like Led Zepplin, Black Sabbath, Rush, Emerson Lake and Palmer, Kansas, and this pleases me to no end. To me, these guys embraced the spirit of exploration and brought forth a subdued, yet emotionally stirring and breathtakingly busy and complex work of hard rock at it’s finest.
Maynord, Adam Jones, Justin Chancellor and the GREAT Danny Carey has come up with a brilliant cd for the progressive hard rock fan that looks for fantastic teamwork and great blending of music that lives and thrives in the dark side.
Do yourselves a favor:
Spend some time kicking back on the couch and do nothing but listen to the cd. Tracks 8 & 10, “Rosetta Stone” and “Right in Two” are intense!

ive had this album for a while…ive always loved tool and the devotion and dedication they have to their music. this album was definately NO disapointment what so ever. I absolutely loved it and Tool remains my favorite band and in my opinion…the best band that has been around for many, many years. The drums and bass and…well dang everything is highly tuned and very catchy. I would have to say that “Right In Two” “Wings for Marie” and “10,000 Days” are by far my favorites on the album…10,000 Days and “Wings” are very deep and emotional…thought provoking and spiritual in a sence…if anyone hasnt heard this album or is thinking of listening to Tool for a first time…definately give this album a go..it’ll be worth it.
