The frustrating “waiting game”
Consumers, such as myself, are playing a “waiting game”. Everyone that had an iMac, or a Powerbook G4, that could afford to upgrade to an iMac Intel Core-duo or a MacBook Pro 15″ has probably already done so. If not, they either do not have the money to do so, or are waiting for something else.
I’m a mix between the two. I don’t have the money for the current MacBook Pros, and I don’t want an iMac. So, I wait.
What I’d love, is to be able to upgrade to a 12″ MacBook (iBook replacement) that could have at least one, if not multiple, external monitors. This would give me the portability I desire, the speed I want from the Intel-based chipset, and the real estate and resolution I require to do what I do on a daily basis.
When will this come? Will my hopes and dreams be fulfilled? Who knows.
If you have not yet upgraded to the intel-based processor Macs, what are you waiting for? Money? The MacBook Pros to get all the bugs worked out? The MacBook? The G5 PowerMac replacement? Let us know.

my powerbook is hardly a year old… I figure I can use this for another few years
Plus I hear photoshop is really slow on them new intels. However, I might pick me up a mini, theyre |relatively| cheap- though I’d need to get another monitor.

Kyle: Yeah, if I had a Powerbook with enough RAM I may not feel the way I do. Since you can probably run a decent resolution on the Powerbook itself, let alone on a secondary monitor.

I’m waiting for exactly what you’re waiting for.
In the meantime, I’m also going to upgrade my RAM (512 just doesn’t do it anymore, 2 GB should keep me going until early 2007).
Eventually I’d like a powerful intel mac desktop system with one or two nice 30″ monitors with hordes of RAM, and an “macbook” that I can do email, blogging, and wardriving with.

I’m waiting on software to catch up. Until Adobe CS3 comes out, it’s pretty difficult to justify upgrading my G5. Not to mention the swarm of other small apps that are just now releasing official universal builds. There’s too much hassle right now trying to bend an Intel Mac to my needs. I’ll probably wait until Leopard is released and Apple Intel hardware/software is really starting to ripen.
Oh, and I’m broke.

A lot of people seem to think that Photoshop is significantly slower, but I haven’t noticed this on my own 20″ Intel iMac (2 GB). It takes the usual 10 to 15 seconds to start up Photoshop (which may be a little slower than on a 2Ghz G5), but once it is running, it is quite speedy. I haven’t noticed any slowdowns at all in the month that I’ve had my machine.

Also: B. Veloso has rumored to have said that he experiences no slow downs running photoshop on his macbook pro…. You’ll have to verify it, but there you go

I’ll have to wait for the software to catch up. I use Adobe software daily and I have read that it is really slow on the Intels so I have nothing to gain. I think it is also good to wait for the second generation Intels…

I’m waiting for the bugs to be worked out, plus it will be my 18th birthday present and I’ll be able to swing my dad round to get it by September. Yup, it’ll be my first Mac.
