Fox Reality and porn stars

Ah Fox, one of the oddest TV networks around. They supply us with a constant amount of humor, making us both laugh with them and at them.

By now you all know of my profound dislike of reality TV, if not start reading. In the latest bit of news on the reality TV circuit I think I’ve been given either a healthy dose of ammunition to continue my battle or a booby trap.

Fox Reality, a network devoted to reality TV, — also a network I’d never heard of before — has just developed a new US/UK show that is being co-produced by Zig Zag Productions. This original show will be called My Bare Lady and will consist of three, one-hour shows.

You’re probably wondering where the whole porn star bit in the title comes into play. Well, if you’re quick you’ll have figured it out by now. If you’re not as quick as the rest of the kids, I’ll spell it out. My Bare Lady will feature top US female porn stars testing their “acting” chops in a British acting school against other UK thespians.

Why could this be a booby — and yes, that pun was intended both times — trap? Well, porn is huge all over the world. TV shows about and starring idiots — Hi Paris. Hi Nicole — seem to be huge as well. Technically speaking this should be a hit.

On the other hand, this has ammunition written all over it. When are people going to realize that putting stupid people on TV and praising them is detrimental to my health?

Yeah, yeah, yeah, I already know that there are some very smart people in the porn industry. Do you think the producers are going to choose them in the casting call? Will they pick starlet’s that could actually do well? Hell no. They’re going to pick the people that will a) look best on camera, b) currently have the largest fan base, and c) make the show interesting. Ok, so point three is the goal of all TV but they could get interesting and intelligent people.

It will be interesting to see how people react to My Bare Lady. The show is on satellite and we all know those satellite subscribers are a different breed altogether.

Yeah, it’s interesting how the shows with what you would think are the stupidest ideas ever seem to get quite a bit of viewership. This is also usually because the idea is so absolutely absurd that it is entertaining and thus it serves its purpose on television.

It seems like television is full of a lot of worthless crap but really it depends on what you try to get out of watching television. For me, a lot of the time I just want to be entertained and … sadly … shows *like* this sometimes get me. Oh well.

Have you ever watched The Amazing Race? There is a reality show that usually has some quite intelligent people. And of course, jerks as well, but it’s quite unlike most reality shows out there. (If you’ve never seen it, I challenge you to watch one episode. It’s a great show.)

I definitely enjoy being entertained as well. TV is my escape or education and I guess I deal with enough idiots in real life I’d rather not have to deal with them on TV as well. Shows that entertain me are scripted shows like CSI, Scrubs, Law & Order, etc.

@Proud: I have watched The Amazing Race but only a few episodes from the first season. You’re right, that is probably the best reality TV show there is these days. It even trumps The Apprentice — haha, especially funny since that cast is suppose to be smart/intelligent. Unfortunately, the rash of stupid shows has really turned me off of the whole reality TV craze.

I absolutely despise the so-called “reality” TV show genre. I do like porn stars, however. Any kind of series is near impossible for me to watch, as I can’t even make myself get on a schedule to watch it. I have found quite a few series pretty decent from what little I’ve seen: House and Scrubs. I tend to just watch the whole [adult swim] lineup because that’s normally when I’m laying down.
