Beth Hart - Leave the Light On
Song Name: Leave the Light On
Artist: Beth Hart
Album: Leave the Light On
Why This Song?: This amazing artist was introduced to me by my brother Ryan, and she came as a bit of a surprise. She has had numerous albums, but yet I have failed to hear any buzz about her.
However, after watching her absolutely amazing “Live At Paradiso” DVD I was immediately a fan of this woman. Her stunning vocal talents were on full display and her eccentric energy kept the crowd entertained.
After being intrigued by this viewing I looked up some info on Ms. Hart. She was a Star Search grand prize winner when she was in her teens. Allegedly, her father abused those winnings. Eventually, Beth was involved in a world of drugs and addiction.
Many of her songs deal with this very subject, so a lot of these songs are very personal and sometimes touching. “Leave the Light On” is one of these songs, about mistreatment placed upon oneself and that others dish out.
This is the title track off her latest album and her first single from the album. While it received very little radioplay it’s a very radio friendly song. With it’s rousing, emotionally tinged chorus it’s surely one of the best songs of a very strong album.
While her albums are good, none of them even come close to reaching her full potential as one of the best female artists, she is a mix of soft and powerful that is reminiscent of Janis Joplin, her live performance shows how truly amazing she can be. Her voice sounds astonishingly better live than it does on her dulled down albums, so I would definitely recommend checking her out in person or via DVD.
