Why This Song?: This marks the first time in SOTW’s esteemed existence that female artists were featured back-to-back. Am I getting soft in my old age? No, but when you have two talented female’s might as well give props where props is due.
Last week’s Beth Hart is more of a rock chick, while Leah Andreone has a bit softer style. However, both have an amazing amount of potential so I can’t wait to hear what they come out with for the future, but in the meantime have created a solid base of work to enjoy.
This particular song off her very good “Unlabeled: The Demos” album. This song seems to me to have a touch of Damien Rice and Matthew Good. This does not mean that this is a replica of either artist, but it does show the versatility that she possesses throughout this album.
Leah has a very unique voice and a very powerful one seen in the ballad “A Flaw in the Way You Love Me,” which to me is another standout on this release. As previously mentioned, her various sounds and varied singing style get major bonus points along with her memorable songwriting.
Leah has released two albums in the mid-90’s, but this is her first release in 8 years. Without heavy production, this is a toned down and personal effort that deserves much respect. Anyone who is tired of the same old same old on the radio today, I would suggest supporting this album. Hopefully, we won’t have to wait another 8 years for another one.
