“The Textmate Book”

Using the Macintosh to do programming, web development, or just writing on your web site is a thoroughly enjoyable experience. It isn’t only because of the sexy hardware, it is mostly due to the software that is available for the Macintosh.

TextMate is the most powerful text editor, and one of the nicest applications I’ve ever used since beginning to write code in the mid-90s. In this area, text editors, the choses are vast. I’ve tried a great deal of applications over the years, but ever since switching to TextMate I’ve not been able to peal myself away even for a day.

Recently “TextMate: Power Editing For The Mac” was released. The book gives a general overview of TextMate and also delves into some of the more powerful features of it. From the looks of it, this book would be good for someone that would like to give TextMate a thorough try - or even those you are fairly familiar with the application already.

I hope to one day be able to do a review of this book. But I’ll wait to pick up my copy until I have time to grab a cup of coffee, sit down and really go through it. Has anyone purchased one that could give us their thoughts?

I’ve really been debating purchasing this book. I don’t use TextMate to the extent that many people use it so I really need to read a guide of some sort. Maybe this could be done on the web for free? Yeah, but how awesome would it be to have a TextMate book haha.

Speaking of having a book, I had a dream last night that I was at a talk on campus and afterwards they gave me a book called SmartPHP (does this exist? maybe i was thinking about Smarty?) and the Transcendent CSS. Odd.

    I don’t think it’s a good thing that I dream about winning programming books….
