How do you rate TMNT?

I have not seen TMNT (Teenaged Mutant Ninja Turtles) yet, and honestly I wasn’t planning on seeing it in the theatre at all. The trailer looks horrible and I was thinking that it’d just be a huge disappointment.

The reviews on Rotten Tomatoes has given it a 34% while my friend Sameer has given it an A- in his review.

Have you seen it? How do you rate it? Should I go see it?

I liked it a lot. They strike a good balance between action and and the relationships between the characters. The conflict between Raphael and Leonardo is especially well done. The animation is great– not quite Pixar, but probably better than anything else out there, and definitely not super stiff like Shrek. The fight in the rain in particular stands out. The water and raindrops on turtles, combined with the slightly transparent skin and the bright red light from a nearby neon sign create a really amazing effect.

It’s definitely not the TMNT of the old cartoons that a lot of people might be expecting. Actually, that’s not entirely true. Michaelangelo is pretty much the same, but then again, this is a family movie, and they have to throw a bone to the kids to keep them interested whenever the action slows down. The action itself is fantastic. The turtles move in ways they never could before– like actual ninjas. Some of the violence might be a bit much for the youngest kids, but I’m sure the average 8-year-old could handle it.

If you’re at all into TMNT, I’d recommend that you see it. Even if you’re not, it’s worth it if you’re looking for some nicely animated action.

I haven’t seen it, but I’m thinking this movie, much like the Transformers movie will be and movies in the past have been, will be judged unfairly. We tend to remember these things as being better than they actually were. And they don’t make these movies for us as much as they make it for the current batch of kids. But who knows.

I’ve seen it twice, (only because the first time there was huge outside factors in me walking away angry), and I have to say that the first time I saw it I was all “YAY TURTLES!” very caught up in the fact there is something ‘new’ from my childhood.

However, the second time i saw it, i watched it from a writers perspective and was disappointed. The story isn’t anything so I’d suggest reading my two reviews @ my site if you’re more interested.

I thought the animation was the best part of the movie. The story was kind of weak. I loved the fight scene in the rain between Raph and Leo. But, April was a ninja. I give it a B+.

Wow. I didn’t expect such good reviews. I suppose I’ll go see it now, and report back. Thanks for the feedback everyone.
