Jared Scharff and the Royals
When I was at the Format show last month, myself and the rest of my group of comrades were royally (pun painfully intended) surprised to hear a refreshing new act that we all acknowledged put on a pretty rad show. As you may have guessed from the title, this would be Jared Scharff and the Royals.
After finishing their set, I made my way over to the merch booth to see what Jared had for sale. I purchased the Jared Scharff and the Royals EP and then spoke to Jared for a bit. He seemed like a very genuine dude and he talked about some upcoming shows in the area.
After arriving home, getting some sleep, listening to the EP a bit more, I downloaded his earlier EP, the Coast EP from the iTunes music store. After listening to both, I have a feeling that Jared should be hitting it big very soon. “Stereo” could and should played on the radio and when it does it could do some very big things. Everything about it screams “hit,” from it’s catchy hook to memorable chorus.
After reading his bio, I was impressed to see that he was featured in Fender and he was the #1 most downloaded artist on PureVolume. After spending a good amount of time listening to his work, it is evident why.
It feels, at times, the vocals may be a bit over-exaggerated. But in all honesty, this does little to detract from the quality of the work. His blend of emotional vocals mixed with modern and classic rock is a blend that deserves of a listen for anyone who is a fan of any of those genres or for anyone who appreciates a guy who can tear it up on the ol’ guitar.
He told me that he would be coming around the area shortly to play a show. Trust me, I’ll be there to check it out. Then I’ll be able to say “I saw this guy before he hit it big.”
Catch up with the geeks
Where have the geeks gone? We’ve been busy to say the least. But we’re going to make an effort to get back in stride here on TUG.n and perhaps give it a little refresh in the coming months.
For those of you that want to keep up with us, I suggest subscribing to our personal blogs. We’ve all got them, and we all use them.
Personal URLs
Phew! That’s a lot of URLs. We’re going to make a comeback on TUG but I wanted all of you to know that we’re still alive and that you can keep up with us via our personal sites easily enough. Subscribe to them all and maybe even drop us a line letting us know what you’d like to see from TUG in the near future. Call it the rise of the TUG!
Now I’ve just gotta write my next TUG entry, hmmmm - what to talk about.
