Adjust screen brightness to save battery life

This seems like such a no-brainer but no matter how many times I tell someone this “trick” everyone always seems amazed. This trick was told to me by Cris Pearson of plasq when he first showed me Skitch in San Francisco.

The keyboard

The Macbook keyboard has screen brightness controls

If you are going to be without power for any long period of time, such as at a conference or at a coffee shop, simply turn down your brightness to squeeze some extra time out of your battery.

On my Macbook I can get almost 5-hours of runtime by turning my screen brightness down to the lowest level possible. This helps out substantially when I’m at an event where power outlets are scarce or are not where the action is.
