LOST Season 3 - DVD Features
The latest season of the hit TV-series LOST to hit your DVD shelves was LOST: Season 3. The green colored DVD set boasts an entire disc of special features that I think are a little bit lacking when compared to the last two seasons.
At first, I thought this was a sign that the LOST creators were going to release a special edition DVD set - but since they didn’t do this for the last two years of LOST I do not believe they will do so for the third season. As an aside I would not doubt that at the end of the series, rumored to last six seasons total, there won’t be some kind of special edition set of all six seasons. Hopefully if they put together a package like that there will be incentive to those of us that bought all of the seasons separately in the form of extra-special special features. Time will tell.
The special features included on disc 7 of this season’s set include the following:
- The World of the Others - Friends or foes? Secrets and mysteries revealed by cast and producers.
- LOST flashbacks - All-new, never-before-seen flashbacks.
- LOST on location - Go behind the scenes with these all-new tales from Season 3.
- The LOST Book Club - Get hints to the significance of LOST’s literary references.
- LOST in a day - An exclusive look at 24 hours in the life of this ambitious series.
- Deleted scenes, LOST bloopers, Audio Commentaries, and More!
These descriptions can be found on the back of the set of DVDs. A few special features are not mentioned on the back (perhaps which is why they say “and more”. One of which is Evangeline Lily introducing “the fans” to a large portion of the crew members that help to put LOST together.
In my opinion the most notable special features were LOST in a day, and the LOST flashbacks. Seeing how much is going on in a given day on the sets and locations, both in Los Angeles and on Hawaii, really gives you a respect for the amount of coordination it takes to run this series on a daily basis. And the flashbacks, though few and short, do lend a small amount of context that simply wasn’t offered during the original broadcasts.
I have not yet listened to any of the audio commentaries, though I didn’t for either of the first two seasons either, but I could potentially see myself doing so one of these days.
Overall I think Season 3 of LOST is worth having in your DVD collection if for no other reason then to have a high quality copy of each of this season’s episodes as a point of reference going forward. I remember watching the beginning of Season 3 live on TV and referencing the discs of Season 1 immediately after it aired. Maybe you’re not crazy like me, but maybe you are.
Side note: Speaking of LOST - I just saw a cool map of the island.

I could never get into special features like you could. Good review though.
