Star Wars coming to the Wii!

A new Star Wars game was announced early last year. Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, is the newest game to come out of the Lucas universe. Most of the recent games have either been Lego versions or movie tie-ins, so it’s nice to know this new one is neither. It actually takes place between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, and you get to play as the secret apprentice of Darth Vader. Finally, a character I can relate to. With that in mind, be prepared to choke, lightning, or force push other Jedi all over the place.

Early reports boasted the realistic physics and AI of the game as the main selling points. Normally, I would pay these types of claims no mind, but this may be a different case, as Industrial Light and Magic is also working on the game with LucasArts.

My real interest for this game isn’t in the apprentice. It’s not in the fancy physics, cool force combos you can pull off, or revolutionary AI. No, this about the lightsaber. This is about the WiiMote slashing, nunchuck whipping, lightsaber glory Wii owners have been waiting for since they first held the remote in their hands. The Wii version will have exclusive content in the form of lightsaber duels. Finally, we can all join the ranks of the Star Wars Kid and swing away.

Check out the official trailer on their site. If that doesn’t get you pumped, you’re dead inside… or you’ve never seen Star Wars. Although it was slated for a spring release, some rumors of a possible release in June are starting to pop up. Pre-order your copy like the rest of us: Star Wars: The Force Unleashed

I nearly had died and gone to heaven when I first heard this announced. I don’t think there is anyone out there that secretly doesn’t want to be shaking their wiimote around pretending to be a jedi. Amazon is starting to list their release date for the game itself to be August 26th. Which is a far cry from it’s original set date of sometime in the Spring.

I don’t have a Wii but I wouldn’t mind getting one step closer to actually wielding a saber by playing this game on the Wii. The game itself seems like a neat take on the SW universe (though even Master Yoda would have trouble taking down a large ship like the one in the trailer).

I think it’s funny how as SW games progress, the force powers themselves begin to get stronger and stronger. This game is the farthest they’ve taken it so far if the trailer is in fact a testament to the ability of the apprentice.
