Recreated Hitchcock Scenes in Vanity Fair

This month’s Vanity Fair has some must-see pictures for any fans of Hitchcock. They recreated some of the most memorable moments in cinema history. This Vanity Fair article details how hard the process actually was to create every little detail that Hitchcock himself worked so hard to get in during the original movies.

What Vanity Fair does is place contemporary actors and actresses in shot-for-shot, nearly perfect recreations of still scenes from your favorite Hitchcock movies. The actual images can be seen here, at /film.

I think what impresses me most is how much the images make me want to see how these movies would turn out if they were shot again with these contemporary stars. Robert Downey Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow in To Catch a Thief? Yes, please! What about Scarlett Johansson and Javier Bardem in Rear Window? If only! That one is probably my favorite image from the page. Javier Bardem has left me dying to see what he’s doing after No Country for Old Men and I don’t have to explain why seeing Scarlett in Grace Kelly’s role is a pleasure.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the Hitchcock films. They are amazingly well done and the attention the man paid to every scene is exemplary. But I’m from another generation. As much as I love Jimmy Stewart, I didn’t grow up with him. I grew up seeing these new stars. These are the actors and actresses that I have a connection with.

So which recreation is your favorite? And if you can’t choose one because you haven’t seen any, then shame on you. Go out and rent/buy a Hitchcock movie and watch it. You owe it to yourself.
